I'm sure there are dozens of other examples of the same phenomenon.

Certainly, in the opposite direction, there are loads:

Un smoking (in French) = a dinner jacket
Un parking = a car park
Un pressing = a dry cleaners
Du shampooing = shampoo

There are doubtless 100s of other examples that I can't bring to mind right now!
