Nothing essential should be in private hands. Infrastructure, food, medicine, clean water, public transportation.... The private sector can sell trinkets, toys, baubles, they can also have restaurants and bars. EVERYTHING ESSENTIAL should be provided to the taxpayers at the lowest possible cost.

@Ulrich_the_Elder I live in Sweden and we have a lot of free or almost free services. We have affordable healthcare, free healthcare for children, social security etc.

A visit to the ER costs $30. Same cost for an ambulance ride. There is a yearly max cost for prescriptions of around $230. There's also a maximum cost of visits to doctors etc of $130.

I've never heard of a Swede who went bankrupt due to health care bills.

Yes, it's broadly similar here in Luxembourg. There are patients charges (e.g. about $6 to see a family physician and usually around $12 - $15 to see a specialist) but they are affordable. I believe ambulances are free. As in Sweden, your total patients charges for a year are limited but here it's a percentage of your income.
There are some waiting lists for routine treatment (I need to see a neurologist for a non-urgent consultation and the first appointment I can get with my neurologist is early August) but if your condition is in any way urgent, you will be seen straight away. Overall I'm extremely happy with the healthcare here.
