Aligning capital gains tax and income tax rates might raise more than £12 billion in tax a year https://www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2023/09/11/aligning-capital-gains-tax-and-income-tax-rates-might-raise-more-than-12-billion-in-tax-a-year/. For many people the fact that capital gains are taxed at lower rates than income represents the clearest sign that the UK tax system is biased to those with wealth. These rates have to be aligned - and I cautiously estimate that this would raise £12bn in tax a year.

I have often thought that individual capital gains should be subject to NI as well, that would make a level playing field!
