I find it questionable to see the amount of people who, without a fight, “give in” to their own biology telling them to reproduce. The selfish gene being the loudest whisperer in your ear, draining oceans and tearing mountains apart, if it means giving your DNA to a new generation, instead of doing the equally fulfilling, most likely less immoral act of simply adopting a child.

It's funny I was questioned closely the other day, by someone aged about 30, as to the reason why I never settled down and had children (I'm 73 now so well past my "fuck by" date).

The reason is perhaps a little sad:
When I was 15, I spent 6 months in a psychiatric hospital with catastrophic depression. Although I recovered quite well and haven't suffered from depression any more than most other people, since, it left me emotionally vulnerable and I therefore find it difficult to sustain relationships. I consider it, therefore, merciful that I didn't have any kids; merciful to them that is.

@Paulos_the_fog this is basically what I'm suggesting people do more! Please just reflect and think about whether you're able to have children, because if not, maybe don't, and if you do maybe adopt?
