I couldn't be more delighted to have escaped the vile, benighted dis-united kingdom when I did - back in 1999!

It's odd that many countries upon which Americans look with utter contempt (like France) already have all or nearly all of those things although I don't think any country has get introduced free internet access (but yes, it would be a great idea).
Luxembourg, where I live, has introduced something ground-breaking that is not on your list - all public transport; trains, trams and buses, within the borders of the country are completely free of charge - no fares at all! (for the pedants - there is one exception if you want to travel 1st class on the trains there is a nominal charge)
My feeling is that that the class system will persist until Britain rids itself of the monarchy, all titles both hereditary and otherwise and all honours like knighthoods.
Banning private education as Finland has done along with China would also have a massive impact on the class nonsense!

One Trick Pony was another good one of his!
Luxembourg is a very civilized country! All salaries, benefits and pensions are index linked to the rate of inflation. We all received a 2.5% increase in October and a further 2.5% increase payable in February has been triggered.
As a Luxembourg pensioner, I will receive this pay increase - thank you very much!
No such generosity from the fuckin wankers in Whitehall!
When I worked for the Dental Estimates Board which was the final resting place of all those forms you had to fill in at dental surgeries in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, it was still pretty common for people in some parts of country to have all their teeth removed and replaced by dentures - certainly in Wales, that was the case when I dealt with Welsh dentists - it was like a rite of passage at 21 years old!
This wasn't recently but it was not that long ago; 1976 is when I worked on the Welsh section!
@rebeccawatson
I believe they were pretty uncomfortable when they were incorporated into corsets!
@elizabethveldon @juliegrrl @hollybrigstocke
not just hand picked but hand picked by someone who happens to be a member of an extreme right wing pollical organization!
@juliegrrl @Paulos_the_fog @hollybrigstocke huh, i thought everyone knew by now.
well now you do: QT is fixed and the audances are hand picked.
You could say Sunak's plan to tackle the problem of refugees crossing the English Channel in small boats was both legal and effective.
The trouble is the parts that are legal are not effective, and the parts that are effective are not legal.
@juliegrrl @hollybrigstocke
but the audience are hand-picked to be complete arseholes!
The selectors of the audience ask would be participants to fill in a questionnaire about their political affiliations and thay are asked to make their social media available to the audience selectors so that deviant lefties, snowflakes, the 'woke' and other reasonable people can be weeded out!
It would, I fear, be foolish to expect anything else from QT whose audience is selected by extreme right-wing bigots and whose ringmaster is also of the extreme right!
My Brother laser printer bleats because I fed it with non-Brother toner cartridges BUT it continues to function perfectly.
Incidentally, I would absolutely unhesitatingly recommend Brother laser printers - mine has performed faultlessly throughout its life and, unlike most laser printer manufacturers, it came with full original toner cartridges whereas most manufacturers provide ones that are half full or less when you buy a new machine!

Love the EU and all it stands for, moreover, I spent the last 10 years of my career working at an EU agency.
Enthusiastic photographer, especially wildlife and most especially butterflies.
Slightly knowledgeable gardener.
Atheist; loathe almost all religions and pity the people deluded enough to follow them. I make exceptions for Buddhism as it isn't really a religion in the strictest sense of the word as it doesn't postulate the existence of any god, and Jainism which is the epitome of peace.
For anyone who is interested, my header photo is of the most stupendous sunset I have ever seen. On the right is the waterfront of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the left is Thailand and in the middle, acting as the border between the two countries is the mighty Mekong river.
