@Harpiste
The only time someone I knew was "golfing", he was said to be in hospital with a very serious heart condition.
In reality, I found out later, he was on remand in prison on a charge of child rape for which he was later sentenced to 19 years!
@freemo
Oh I think socialism has been successfully implemented - for example by most native American cultures and indeed by tribal cultures throughout the world. No such cultures would even consider allowing members of their own tribal group to starve to death or to otherwise suffer from the want of some commodity that the group has in sufficient abundance to provide them with it!
The problem in our society in the west is that a small number of people hoard all the necessities they can get their hands on to the detriment of the whole of society; not only so but they attract enormous undeserved admiration for doing so!
We live in a hideously distorted society but because we were all raised with it, we assume is right and proper that it be so.

Important to whom?
@freemo
If that's your definition of socialism, the UK in the 1960s and 70s went a long way down the socialist path. Much of British industry was publicly owned - the railways, British Airways, steel making, mining, much of the automobile industry, British Telecom, The Post Office, some banks, ICL (mainframe computers) and much more!
It was a catastrophe - the nationalised industries were woefully inefficient massively overstaffed and offered nearly zero in customer service!
In the 1970s, I moved to France which had/has just as many nationalised industries but they were a paragon of efficiency - well run, profitable for the government and a delight to deal with.
I have often pondered what could be the difference between Britain and France that made Britain's nationalised industries so utterly dire and the French ones so damned good! I have concluded that it is the quality of the management.
I'm 73 now and I'm quite glad that, statistically, I don't have much time left to watch tory arseholes destroy my homeland!
@ChrisMayLA6 "Now clear" is doing some heavy lifting there - it was *always* clear
It was apparent that clarity and facts were unimportant after that historic "we're tired of experts" comment.
We're living in the stupidest timeline. I just hope I win the lottery or die before it plays out to its conclusion at this point.
The problem is that the tabloid scum have convinced a tidy sized minority of brain-dead Brits that burning asylum seekers alive would be a good thing, not a bad thing!
...of course when there is a fire aboard this tory death-trap - tory MPs will be elbowing firefighters aside to rush in and risk their lives to save others, WON'T THEY!!!
Designed to house 200 - the tory filth want to imprison 500 aboard this prison hulk.
In that event - describe socialism and how it is differentiated from communism.
The reality is that communism has never really been implemented in any nation state - certainly not in the former 'communist bloc' states!
Without googling it, can you name another person who has been charged with 78 or more felonies? #trivia
Bernie Madoff was charged with 11.
John Gotti was charged with 13.
Al Capone was charged with 23.
That is treason and every single person who was a party to it should spend the rest of their natural lives in prison!
Retired software engineer & woodworker.
Anglo-francophone.
Detest tories. Subscribe to green, leftish radical politics but not to any particular political party!.
Love the EU and all it stands for, moreover, I spent the last 10 years of my career working at an EU agency.
Enthusiastic photographer, especially wildlife and most especially butterflies.
Slightly knowledgeable gardener.
Atheist; loathe almost all religions and pity the people deluded enough to follow them. I make exceptions for Buddhism as it isn't really a religion in the strictest sense of the word as it doesn't postulate the existence of any god, and Jainism which is the epitome of peace.
For anyone who is interested, my header photo is of the most stupendous sunset I have ever seen. On the right is the waterfront of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the left is Thailand and in the middle, acting as the border between the two countries is the mighty Mekong river.
