Love these creatures. They are rare visitors to my garden in late summer. These were taken this year.

On my trip back to see family in Holland it just struck me (again) how broken Britain is: they talk about ambulance waiting times in minutes, talk about food banks as something unusual, although growing, talk about economic growth as if it is a given, and most of all: they talk about Britain as a nation that has completely lost its way.

So the proposals of the tory scum place it very clearly at odds with international law and under it's obligations under international treaties.

To put in context multi millionaire Nadhim Zahawi threatening nurses & ambulance paramedics with bringing in soldiers to break their strike, it’s worth remembering his expenses claim which included heating his horses’ stables was more than a nurse on starting pay is asking for.

'No case' -? Tell that to every responsible economist & business-person in the country. 'Better Brexit' - ? Is Starmer hoping to reinvent as a stand-up comedian? What gobsmacking stupidity. twitter.com/adambienkov/status

I received my end of year pensioners bonus from the Luxembourg pension provider (only a miserable 200€) but the one I am really, REALLY thrilled about is receiving my pensioners' Christmas bonus from the DWP in the UK; a massive £10.

Brexiters - without resorting to primary school level insults and non sequiturs. Can any of you help us normal folk out and tell us what the tangible benefits of brexit are 6 years down the line . It's ok to admit you're a bit thick and can't and never could by the way

2019 Nobody said it wld make us better off
2020 We won't starve so we should be grateful
2021 It's Covid's fault
2022 It's Russia's & Remainers fault

New study: "Between 2018 and 2021, the excess death rate for Republican voters [from #COVID19] was 5.4 percentage points, or 76 percent higher, than that of registered Democrats. The majority of the difference, though, was concentrated after the introduction of COVID-19 #vaccines: after vaccines became available, the death rate gap between #Republicans and #Democrats widened from 1.6 percentage points to 10.4 percentage points."

I must confess that when I was younger I expected the future to have more robot butlers and jetpacks, and less plague and fascism, but here we are.

I cannot stand the palate-cloyingly sugary shit with which they fill mince pies these days so I have started making my own mincemeat to a recipe used by Auguste Escoffier; chef de cuisine at the Savoy at the turn of the 19th/20th century. His recipe contains no added sugar at all, but a fair bit of alcohol as indeed it should (to preserve it).

If anyone is interested, the recipe can be found here:
