Conservatives in the past week:
A few children's lives are worth our freedom to own assault weapons.
Is child labor really a bad thing?
We need a waiting period on teens seeking gender care, but everyone should be able to buy a gun instantly.
Guns are safe; libraries are not.
What's the big deal with violating campaign finance laws?
Who cares that somebody violated national security and released top secret info?
Racists who go out hunting BLM protesters are just “standing their ground.”
Obviously I expected the GOP would go from banning gender affirming care for children to attempting to do so for adults, but I will absolutely admit the speed they're moving through these steps is breathtaking.
The best I can come to understanding what they're doing, in terms of how unmooored it is from public opinion and what they'd want to do to win elections, is that they aren't anticipating a future where elections are held.
In Texas, Daniel Perry—a white man—posted "he might kill a few people," drove his car past a red light & into a previously peaceful BLM march, shot & killed a protestor (a US Vet), was duly charged, unanimously convicted—& TX Gov Abbott is pardoning him.😳
Texas is announcing to the world that in their view, murdering people for exercising their First Amendment right to peacefully protesting racism is OK.
This isn't democracy. It's fascism. This sets a literally deadly precedent for the future.
When you care more about protecting guns, easy access to guns, and gun lobby campaign donations (de facto bribes) than you care about protecting children, you’re not pro-Second Amendment and you’re not pro-life.
You’re simply an asshoIe who’s well beyond salvation.
Fuck you, and your “thoughts and prayers,” too.

For anyone who lives in Eastbourne or close to that part of East Sussex, the Bluebell Walk opens in a few days time and it is a stupendous experience. The scent and sight of millions of bluebells is quite overwhelming.
It isn't free but the proceeds go to charity (details on the website)

Love the EU and all it stands for, moreover, I spent the last 10 years of my career working at an EU agency.
Enthusiastic photographer, especially wildlife and most especially butterflies.
Slightly knowledgeable gardener.
Atheist; loathe almost all religions and pity the people deluded enough to follow them. I make exceptions for Buddhism as it isn't really a religion in the strictest sense of the word as it doesn't postulate the existence of any god, and Jainism which is the epitome of peace.
For anyone who is interested, my header photo is of the most stupendous sunset I have ever seen. On the right is the waterfront of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the left is Thailand and in the middle, acting as the border between the two countries is the mighty Mekong river.
