The model for action on climate-ecological breakdown I keep thinking of is not lockdown, but the 'war economy' in the UK in the 1940s: curtailing unnecessary production and services, redirecting resources and labour not to 'the war effort' but to combating climate change - making and fitting insulation for buildings, replacing fossil fuel heating systems, re-engineering public transport, etc - even 'dig for victory' - in wartime people used every bit of garden and waste land to grow food - now it would be rewilding, planting trees, or, indeed, good organic fruit and vegetables...

But the point is that the 'war economy' model shows it could actually be done.

I can’t imagine millions of people logging in and seeing a child abuse video but after the account responsible is banned, the site owner reinstates the account because he deleted the photos.

The standard procedure should be reporting this to NCMEC not reinstating the account because it’s one of your right wing buddies.

I’m honestly disturbed just thinking about the whole thing. This guy needs an intervention and serious help.

Just like the Antarctic sea ice graphs and the North Atlantic ocean temperature graphs — both of which you've probably seen — the graph below is almost unbelievably stunning and ominous.

What you have here are the top 30 hottest months ever recorded. The last one shown is this month, July of 2023, and it's WAY above any of the others.

A global temperature rise of .32°C in a single month doesn't even seem like it should be possible. But that's what is happening. That's the dire new world we're living in.

🚨 This is a climate emergency.🚨

The #NigelFarage Q. put in stark terms, by Ben Jamal:

'Conservative government claims that they’re taking action now on behalf of Nigel Farage because of an issue of principle begs a question of why was that not applied & why have you not taken action or even raised a murmur when this has occurred to a whole range of other groups whose political view you don’t share?'

We all know why really: the #Tories are a bunch of self-serving #hypocrites running scared of Farage

Nestle makes enormous profits each year and faces no legal accountability for stealing water. Now coffee empire Starbucks has struck a multibillion dollar deal with Nestle. We ask you to join the movement to #BoycottStarbucks, #BoycottNestle, and boycott all of their products. Take and share the pledge.

⬇️ This is a fact. ⬇️

It’s not a meme. It’s not an opinion. It’s a fact — a fact I wish everyone could accept, take to heart, and use to motivate action!!

A swallowtail butterfly feeding on Verbena in my garden this morning!

Do you ever feel that the PM and Government don't understand your pain and don't speak out for you?

Well, if your Coutts account is closed they will be there for you.

I hope that is some comfort.

It's expensive to be poor. It's ironic but true. You get charges and fees for everything. Higher interest rates. Overdraft fees. Late fees. Having only enough to buy what you need right now instead of buying in bulk. Losing your job because you can't afford to get your car fixed. Losing your car because you don't have a job. Even your mental faculties are drained, as you are forced to continually eat low-nutrition foods, "sleep" in miserable conditions, and be exposed to toxins and lack of medical treatment. The lack of liquidity wipes you out. Life really does kick you while you're down.

You can't tell someone trapped in that vicious cycle to "just" get a job or "just" make responsible decisions. Sometimes, no amount of good decision-making can stop the vortex sucking them down. So the next time you are tempted to place moral judgment on someone who lives in poverty, think twice.

Signed, someone who has been both a Have and a Have-Not.

Meanwhile elite wage #inflation continues apace:

The CEO of Crown Estates has received a pay rise over the last three years that from his arrival in the role has seen his pay triple!!!

But, hey, nothing to see here.

Of course, there's lots of 'justification' trotted out to counter criticism, but it just suggests as so often (at the least) #KingCharles has a tin ear for #politics & more seriously, whatever the pious words the #monarchy is detached from our reality!

I agree with Macron - we Europeans have no need at all of US "talent". Their loyalty to the EU is likely to be completely overwhelmed by their loyalty to the USA. It was an utterly stupid idea to consider appointing her! Sack the cretin who thought of it!
