Mark Twain famously said, "It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled." Convincing someone that they have been fooled involves the admission that they made a foolish choice without the proper vetting. This can be especially difficult when masses of people and vast sums of money are involved.

I'm used to Americans having strange perceptions of Europe in general, and the Netherlands in particular, but I just remembered that one woman who wanted to move to the Netherlands because we have so many horses.

I don't remember the exact number she quoted, but it was something ridiculous, equivalent to around five horses per person.

The Royal Dutch Equestrian Sports Federation (KNHS) quotes 450.000 horses in their 2016 numbers 🐴

Stopping gun violence is such a complex issue that only every other advanced nation in the entire world has figured it out.

"We want to live in a modern, democratic, European country, protected by an elected Head of State who can protect the constitution and not stand by while a small group of fascists take away our legal rights.”

New mainstream idea.

Now that the coronation had ended, what about the assassination?

Good, excellent - I don't know how many mass shootings it will take to change American minds about gun control but I guess until then it's the more the merrier!

Their abandonment of the UK follows a growing number of investors who've chosen to leave, or not move to, the UK.

Gun violence is now the leading cause of death among children in the United States.

Every developed nation has people with mental illness, video games, disgruntled ex-employees, alienated people, homicidal and suicidal persons, etc. Why does the U.S. have the problem it does?

It’s the same things it always is- the number of firearms, access to them, fetishism surrounding the 2nd Amendment, and the immense political power of the firearms industry.

Not a Republican has the courage to step up.

Well, well, well, the cuntservatives really did get the absolute caning they so soundly deserved in the local elections yesterday. The BBC coverage was at all times as grudging as possible as one council after another toppled either to labour, to the lib-dems or to no overall control.
The tories publicly admitted that they thought it possible that they might lose 1000 seats, however, that was widely reported as ‘expectation management’ rather than what tories really thought. In private most conservatives who were prepared to go on record with an estimate thought that in reality between 600 and 750 was the likely level of tory losses. However, the final tally significantly exceeded four figures!

I'm so glad I don't live in the UK, especially on days like this. If you ever get the chance to leave, I highly recommend it.

Images like this will fly around global media in no time.

Completely unnecessary and illiberal policing. The heavy-handed image management attempt has backfired absolutely.

Our Home Secretary is responsible for the misjudged idiocy.

An arrest designed to stamp down on freedom of speech on the anniversary of the start of book burning in Nazi Germany is ironic.
