@schestowitz
That is why I quit #twitter a few years ago. It locked me out of my account and requested my phone number to restore it.
Not in this lifetime dude!
I would rather use pigeons and smoke signals 😂

@matt Many thinkpads are FOSS friendly, but it's always worth asking about the video and WiFi cards, because they can cause some headaches.

Newton's model isn't perfect, but is good enough for most situations and it's easy to implement too. It's also a good tool for teaching that you need to be a bit sceptical toward all models. They all have their limitations and you need to be aware of them in order to use the model responsibly.

@purism Biggest improvement for 2019 was switching from gmail to #ProtonMail 🇨🇭❤️ Looking forward to my #Librem5 in 2020!

Have you heard about Trunk for the Fediverse?

...I hadn't - discovered it earlier this afternoon. Very interesting!

Made a series of Toots about it, and since I started a new blog (finally), a blog post with the same content and polish, text formatting, etc.

Find out about Trunk for Fediverse - write.tedomum.net/rgx/to-help-

@milan Oh, but it still has "higher dynamic range" than the default settings, so I guess most camera manufacturers will happily label that result as HDR. Have you tried cheating by exposure bracketing and creating a fake HDR composite that way?

So I’ve heard about Mastodon, have no idea how it works but I’ll give it a go. Basically interested in most things scientific, particularly as they relate to climate change, the environment etc. That and general intelligent chat, if such a thing exists online.

@kosame @design_RG I too would like to pin a certain hangtag or even a collection of hashtags (think of multireddits), in order to receive relevant content. Although, I suppose peoplecentricism is probably the whole point here, and I'm just missing it by thinking these thoughts. In defence of I do have to point out that I enjoy the fact that I can make lists based on my preferences. Some people tend to post about a certain topic, so I can group them together in one list.

I've been reading various guides about Mastodon ( thanks to @design_RG ) to participate more effectively.

One thing I don't get is why it is people focused rather than topic focused (like reddit).

Specifically, I don't really understand how to follow a topic...

Like, do I have to search using a hashtag everytime I want to keep up with something??

Well over 2 thousand people have filled out this survey, studying the effects of Operating Systems on happiness.

Awesome. Some fantastic data here. I'm going to leave the survey open through the weekend, then publish the findings next week.

@kgary Welcome to mastodon. I'm relatively new myself, but I started finding interesting people by using the search. Searching for interesting hashtags also showed who are writing about interesting topics, so that was a good way to find more people to follow. Actually more than a few of those people are from other mastodon servers. Turns out, it doesn't matter because the different servers are not isolated.

@binsrc No problem. I think we should see a lot of improvement in the coming months as the software gets developed further. Just getting actual hardware in the hands of consumers is a huge undertaking on its own, but now has to start working on the other huge task; ironing out the bugs and adding features. Early adopters will be happy have a phone like this, but the wider audience shouldn't hope too much at this stage.
