Elon Misk has named a new Twitter CEO, Linda Yaccarino.

So my question is, how many Scaramuccis will she last?

Again, shareholders enriched while workers' wages fall.
"...earnings for US companies Hershey, Mars and Mondelez in addition to Italy's Ferrero and Swiss peers Lindt & Spruengli and Nestle had increased since the onset of the pandemic in 2020, a period when inflation has soared."

Anderson Cooper: people who decided they're done with CNN after the recent debacle are choosing a Trump-free "silo"

No Anderson, Trump's lies, treason, and criminality has permeated every fucking corner of American life. Dropping CNN like a sack full of angry vipers will not end that in any way. It'll just give CNN what it deserves for participating in the damage.

Way to go, #SupremeCourt!

Via @KlasfeldReports:

Just in--

Sam Bankman-Fried's lawyers claim that the holding from one of the #SCOTUS rulings yesterday overturning a pair of corruption convictions may torpedo multiple counts against their client.

That's the ruling written by Justice #ClarenceThomas. #legal

It's amazing how many institutional aspects that we live under became a lot better under covid only for that shit to get ripped away once corporations and rich fucks felt like they lost the narrative.

Republican Fascists can only win by cheating

‘Town hall audience was "disgusted" and "bewildered" by Trump, but CNN told them not to boo, only to applaud’

‘Only to applaud’. Well, that is certainly balanced journalisming! boingboing.net/2023/05/12/town

100 years ago, my grandmother came to the US from Mexico as a 6- or 7-year old orphan. Together, tens of millions of people who came during the same period helped make America a global superpower.

America needs immigrants – not the naked cruelty and partisanship in H.R. 2. 5/5

We've been getting a lot of band-tailed pigeons at the feeders. For people who haven't experienced them, they are huge, just a bit smaller than a crow, with a wingspan about twice that of a rock dove (i.e. city pigeon). And they travel in flocks.

Here's a flock taking off from the back yard. I think I count 33 in that photo.

There's still a weird urge among some journalists to pretend Elon Musk's politics can't be captured by normal labels.

He's very far right! He thinks banal, nonpartisan, routine conferences for election officials are "far left." This is not complicated!

Trump is appearing at a @CNN@twitter.com town hall tomorrow night.

If he is not asked multiple questions about the jury's decision to hold him LIABLE FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT and THE NUMEROUS OTHER WOMEN WHO HAVE PUBLICLY ACCUSED HIM OF SEXUAL ASSAULT it will be a journalistic catastrophe

The so-called party of “law & order” is so dangerous that the Judge ruling over Trump’s sexual abuse conviction trial is compelled to warn jurors to remain anonymous “for a long time,” lest harm come to them.😳

The is the GOP today. Smh. Horrible.

Covid, news

In case you haven't heard.

There's a new Covid variant, called Arcturus.

Apart from the classic covid symptoms, this strain is also causing conjunctivitis, or "pink eye". This is an allergy-like condition, with red eyes, itch, irritation.

It has shown increased transmissibility, because it's better at evading existing immunity from vaccination and prior infections.

Any covid infection can result in LongCovid for you or the people you infect, so please act accordingly.

Elie Mystal, again:

When #Trump uses campaign funds to pay E. Jean Carroll $5 million dollars and doesn't record it properly, that will be another bookkeeping offense.

I want to get that on the record now so I can say "I told you so" in 2029 when a prosecutor finally gets around to looking into that

"Officer-involved shooting" is a euphemism for "officer shot someone" -- and it's used, by police and journalist, to make reality fuzzy.

If all journalism organizations agreed to, as this commentary advises, abolish the "Exonerative Tense” in headlines (and I'd add, articles as well), journalism would be much improved.

An #introduction. Hello, I'm Jo, an (incoming) #geology PhD student. My interests center around #geomorphology and applying mathematical and computational methods to answer questions about landscape evolution. Outside of my studies I spend my time #climbing and listening to #music. Excited to share my thoughts and work and connect with others!

Today, Fort Hood was renamed for San Antonio’s Richard E. Cavazos – the first Mexican American to reach the rank of four-star general in the Army.

Gen. Cavazos inspired generations of troops with his integrity and courage. Starting today, Ft. Cavazos proudly bears his name.
