"Sunday 'Días de Demasiados Muertos' ('Days of Too Many Dead') Toons" - This and more in @PDiddie's smart, if grim, collection of the week’s best toons…

CNN coverage of the AI fake news about me that was posted on MSN:

“in October, Microsoft republished an article that claimed that San Francisco Supervisor Dean Preston had resigned from his position after criticism from Elon Musk. The story was entirely false.”

To date, I’ve receive no acknowledgement, apology, or explanation from MSN.

Coverage of all this is important so that we don’t normalize AI’s harmful impact on news.

There’s too much money in the world when an NFL owner can pay people 85 million not to work for them anymore

@JonathanAldrich @b_cavello The American Astronomical Society has had all six of its journals be open-access since last year: journals.aas.org/ .

But it has about a tenth of the membership ACM does.

Hey young voters - I *promise* you, if you abandon Biden, THINGS WILL GET A LOT FUCKING WORSE.

"They changed the name from 'global warming' to 'climate change'."

Barely connected to the science of climate change at all. Even so, we can drape this thin semantic tissue onto the hard edges of reality's landscape and see what pokes through.

Who's "they," and exactly when and how did the plan happen? It almost goes without saying that these "facts" are valid only between certain sets of ears, but there are details. Reviews invited.

@KingShawn Young voters, holding gun to their foot: Do what I say or I swear I WILL SHOOT!

Hey there Mastodonians. I could use a hand.

Last week I lost my #job for the third time THIS YEAR: once to a bankruptcy, once to a toxic CEO, and again last week due to an acquisition by a parent company that eliminated my position.

My background is in #solar #sales #leadership though I also have high writing proficiency (including a master's degree in creative #writing). Can you pass this around and reply if you have any job leads? I have 0 runway left at this point.

Daughter works at a retail chain I won't name because she can't afford to lose her job. Unvaccinated coworker went to a concert, unmasked, kept coming to work, and got visibly sick. D begged her to test before their shift today; she didn't. D texted me from work and asked me to bring COVID tests to the store. C took a test, which came back positive. Corporate said C had to finish her shift. D said fuck that and went home (good for her).
Capitalism is killing us.

Do you boost polls on mastodon?

The GOP has introduced a bill to EXPEL Palestinians from the United States. I cannot read such things without remembering what happened to my own family after Pearl Harbor. After we and 120,000 other Japanese Americans were incarcerated in prison camps for years, without charge or trial, my own mother was very nearly expelled to Japan because of racial prejudice and hatred. Only the brave actions of a civil rights attorney saved her from being sent away. #NeverAgain

I am an exvangelical, ex-fundamentalist, ex-Christian Nationalist raving batshit Duggar wannabe. I fled that culture 22 years ago after having six babies (within nine years) for Jesus in order to “take back our Christian nation” from all y’all unrepentant evil pagans in the USA. You are second-class citizens to these people. If you aren’t afraid that the Speaker of the House is a Christian nationalist, you should be. #ChristianNationalism #MikeJohnson #theocracy #VoteBlue

Always, always remember that the primary goal of disinformation isn't to get you to believe lies you read.

The goal is to get you to stop trusting ANYTHING you read.

To create an atmosphere so confusing that you stop feeling like facts are discernable.

So you give up trying.

If you feel like it's impossible to understand what's actually going on in Gaza right now, well.

That's not an accident.

One of the funnier things about right-wing "populism" is they don't want to bring back good-paying manufacturing jobs because a) those would be urban jobs because that's where the infrastructure is, b) they don't want to pay people anyway, and c) they're the ones who gutted manufacturing in the first place by offshoring to make bigger profits.
