@Wolf480pl also this:
"To launch a taboo, a group has to be poised halfway between weakness and power."
... I think says a lot about our current epoch.
@Wolf480pl from Graham's essay:
> "The age of consent fluctuates like hemlines."
This is true even across countries in the present, let alone across history. But pointing out this obvious fact is one of the crimes Stallman was deplatformed for.

@ajroach42 @lesbianhacker @alcinnz I wasn't very serious, but don't mistake my disagreement for incomprehension. We have email and file transfers; have had since the UUCP and FIDO days; and those things are not broken and are the core applications. I don't think needing new application areas is really the top issue for non-realtime networks. It is true that "social networking" doesn't seem well served by them but I think we might do better to just not have that, than to try hard to build it.
@ajroach42 @alcinnz @lesbianhacker Email is *the* core application of UUCP, and client software always used to support UUCP-style email addresses just fine. Maybe there are some new email clients that don't, but going back to the older clients wouldn't require all that much new software.
The Web, yes, is something we can't do without realtime networking. But it's basically dead at this point anyway as browsers have changed from reading documents to executing code.
@mattskala @ajroach42 @lesbianhacker And, by the way, I do like to advocate for transitioning back to a Web without clientside scripting.
