320th species of moth noted in our garden this year...

The Mallow, Larentia clavaria. One of the geometer moths. So-called because their larvae move as if they are measuring the earth, geo - meter. Americans know them as inchworms.

@sciencebase We get that sort of larva here, but they are rather small (150mm, 2mm diam). Called 'loopers', very staccato movement. I don't know what they are. Any ideas?

@SteelFolk There are lots and lots of them...

150mm seems very long for a 2mm diameter larva!

@sciencebase I didn't realise they went like that cos they've only got legs at the front and back. Seems like an odd adaption at first sight. Like a kind of Lep with only one wing.
