The Big Q&A is a series of The Big Picture where we sit down with some of the most important voices of our times to ask them the big picture questions. Today’s interview is with former mayor of Campbell, California and current member of the California State Assembly, Evan Low.
In 2016, New York Magazine identified Low as a potential future United States presidential candidate and in the 2017-2018 session, The Sacramento Bee recognized Low as California's most prolific lawmaker with the most bills signed by the governor.
This is a not-to-be-missed interview with an up-and-coming Democrat with a bright future. We hope you share it far and wide: https://thinkbigpicture.substack.com/p/big-questions-answers-evan-low
@Strandjunker It was explained to me in Kindergarten! Rich people are your betters; they are 'the great and good'. They deserve to have all that they want. You are not like that. You are lucky to have the crumbs from their plate. Now, let us sing "All Things Bright and Beautiful", including the verse which tells us that the Lord God made the rich man in his castle and the poor man at his gate (that's you). Just be grateful, it's expected from you. And all said with a straight face.
@fzer0 @x0 @Strandjunker Well done!

Stripping abortion rights away nationally, imposing their beliefs on every American--that is their true goal. And the GOP won’t stop until it's achieved.
The fact is, the Republican Party has been hijacked by a White Christian nationalist movement that wants to impose its own “morality” on the entire country, not merely red states: https://bit.ly/3WmTdlX
@AliceMerray I don't know whether some of them were prequels or just written before but not as popular. 😜
@AliceMerray Can you think of a worthwhile prequel?
Prequels
This is perhaps an unpopular opinion, but a sincere one.
Star Wars (and, no, not "A New Hope" thank you) was better without prequels
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a far more wonderful story with no origins for the lamppost, Narnia, the witch and indeed the wardrobe.
Even prequels by the author undermine the original piece of work
Hard to think of many prequels in film or literature that are worthwhile and do not diminish
Godfather perhaps, maybe? But other than that?
@breadandcircuses Of course, the priority will be all the things which affect ordinary folk, lest those doing the banning affect their own wanton habits.

Perspective: The 1980 eruption of #MountStHelens #otd vented approximately 10 million tons of #CO2 into the atmosphere in only 9 hours. However, it currently takes humanity only 2.5 hours to put out the same amount.

@TatianaIlyina It will be the High Efficiency Heaters that I'll miss the most.
We’ve added the energy of 25 billion nuclear bombs to the Earth system in just the last 50 years.
Almost all of this energy to date has been taken up by the oceans. https://theconversation.com/two-trillion-tonnes-of-greenhouse-gases-25-billion-nukes-of-heat-are-we-pushing-earth-out-of-the-goldilocks-zone-202619
As Earth system modeler making climate change projections, I am used seeing them as possible scenarios.
However seeing how our climate change projections unfold in front of us, new records and extremes being reported nearly daily, makes my blood freeze.
@alx Thanks for posting it all. It is appreciated.
