So I've been porting the open-source
mmorpg / MUD game I've been writing here (in java
) https://github.com/Syncleus/AetherMUD
The new game is written in Ruby
same idea though. It can be found here now https://github.com/Syncleus/Aethyr
It is a text based multi-player online game called a MUD. You don't even need a client to play, just telnet in to the server.
I've been working on porting over and improving the code that renders an area map. I finally have all the functionality ported over! I attached a screen shotto show what it looks like.

@Mrfunkedude Thank you, I appreciate it. I gave him to my sister because she had kids and they wanted a dog. I think it was the best for both of us.
I still have this feeling like I abandoned him, or something, that's just all of a sudden there- but I know I did what was right for Sabah. He had almost a decade of life with kids, and a yard, and a loving family. He was such a good dog, and I'll miss him, even if I said goodbye years ago.
That is Sabah. When I left the US I left him with my sister. I knew I couldn't give him a good life with how hectic immigration is. For many years he has been happy and loved by my sister's kids and my sister herself. Today he was put to sleep because of cancer. He is a good boy, and I'm sorry I couldn't be there for him. I'll miss you Sabah, thank you so much for looking after my niece, nephew, and sister all these years.
@neverfadingwood @freemo I have to agree with the point of it being about a person on the highest court and the supreme court's power being almost totally in the people's confidence in the Justices.
It makes sense to me.
CWed for Length- Holocaust Discussion.
@freemo All nations have made terrible decisions that ended with the destruction of human life, culture, and freedom. None of us are wholly innocent in supporting institutions that at one time did terrible things to someone.
The US with Native Americans and the slave trade, Europe with it's history of antisemitism, colonialism, and imperialism. Asian nations have their dark pasts, too.
Israel is certainly not wholly innocent in how it treats certain people within our society- but it is on the lips of the people, and people are aware of it.
People need to know- and internalize- that it wasn't so long ago that their ancestors did terrible things. That doesn't mean that they themselves are guilty for the decisions of the past- but they are responsible to *remember*.
CWed for Length- Holocaust Discussion.
@freemo For me, as one of those undesirable peoples, it is infuriating.
At the same time, it is human nature to distance oneself from those things painful in one's past. I understand it.
But it is a slap in the face to everyone who got marched into those camps- Jews, Romani, Political Opponents, Homosexuals- Thirteen Million human beings were systematically murdered in what is quite possible the worst modern example of genocide and mass-murder.
People need to see this. They need to understand that their ancestors were willing participants in these sorts of things.
@gentoorebel I wake up in the afternoon. :P I'm just heavy, man. Like my body isn't weak or anything and I'm not physically or mentally tired.
Just heavy. So heavy.
I've been reading a lot of disturbing news recently in regards to the Shoah (Holocaust) where European nations are passing laws, or opening museums that minimizes the acts of their governments and peoples.
In Poland and Hungary, most recently. This is revisionist history of the worst kind. People need to see that once, in the past, anyone considered undesirable in their society was marched to death camps.
They need to see the ugly truth of their nation's past and present.
@neverfadingwood @freemo In a continuation of our conversation yesterday, I came across this editorial/opinion piece:

Gooood night #qoto ! Time for bed, and only at 4am. Early for me!
@neverfadingwood I do a similar thing with the #ShareTheMusic hashtag. Feel free to use that one, too, because I know a couple of people are already looking for it.

I'm still stuck on this being for a member of the Supreme Court, but I can see your point in the idea of a postponement.
Rape Talk-CWed for content and length
@neverfadingwood @freemo Oh, absolutely. Just because something happened 36 years ago doesn't mean we shouldn't find out anything and everything we can about it. IN PARTICULAR when it involves someone for the Supreme Court.
People on THAT court should be model citizens and legal scholars of great knowledge and excellence.

@freemo @neverfadingwood Yeah, I figured you were speaking more generally, Freemo.
And no problem, NeverFading. :)
I'm doing some quick research<TM> and it seems the school has had issues in the past with sexual assaults, and a wide range of alumnae want something to be looked into, so. There might very well be something very serious there to look into.
From WikiPedia: On September 20, it was revealed that more than 1,000 alumnae who attended Ford's high school, Holton-Arms School, between the 1940s and present day had signed a letter in support of Ford's call for a "thorough and independent investigation" before she testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee.[107] The letter also stated that the school has a long history of similar incidents.[107] These signatories also stated that they were "survivors" who either heard about or experienced sex abuse at the school.[107]

@freemo @neverfadingwood It looks like she brought the issue up in therapy sessions in 2012. She didn't come forward to anyone in public, though. So I don't think this was a situation of allegations being ignored in 2012 only to come to light again now, so much as these documents proving she's talked about this *before* Kavanaugh's senate hearings.
That is an important piece of the puzzle that adds a certain amount of trust to her statements as a victim, at least for me. Telling a therapist about these issues is an extremely different forum- it doesn't reflect on Kavanaugh at all- it means she was trying to work through it 30 years later.
Unfortunately something that happened 36 years ago is going to be a difficult thing to prove in a way that law enforcement will be satisfied with.
That being said, yeah. There is most def a victim blaming culture for people who survive rape or sexual assault. I don't, personally, understand why anyone would blame the victim of a crime for the crime.
Account has been Depreciated. Thanks for all the fun, QOTO!
