Hi all we did NOT migrate the servers yesterday but instead just begun that now. It shouldn't effect anything until I redirect the DNS in a few hours. At that point there may be momentary downtime. I will keep everyone informed ont he schedule.

Personally I wouldn't mind being able to prove (or disprove) the existence of God, for we currently can't determine whether or not such a being exists when it's not on our standard human, 4-dimensional, observational scientific plane (that is, something we can't identify with our 5 senses).

This isn't exactly a mathematical equation or anything, but if I had the opportunity to solve *any* mystery, this would probably be the thing.

@Surasanji Knowing a few things about the nature of the universe would be very interesting:
- To what extend its the universe deterministic?
- How did life begin? How can we recreate that setting?
- What is the mind? What do we perceive exactly?
- How can we travel through time (besides the usual 1s/s-only-forwards type)?
- What set off the Big Bang?

I'm a freelance science journalist and will soon start a serial about the history of CRISPR/Cas9 (the new gene editing tool, that is going to change the world, probably) at a new german independent science journalism platform called Riffreporter (https://www.riffreporter.de (no publisher required)). @Surasanji The dude rarely posts anything hateful though; just donations to monks posts, his activities and military operations. There’re a lot of pages out there(from both sides) promoting hate speech than him. Well, fb can ban anyone controversial if they want to, it’s their platform but I’ve a feeling it’s not going to end well.

@Surasanji I would like to master carpentry. My grandfather was a master carpenter trained by his father and he made some beautiful pieces. Unfortunately, that skill was not passed down to me. I'd love to be able to carry on that family trait.

@freemo @Surasanji @arteteco This is where the study of tribal psychology comes into play. We are wired to be good members of our tribe above anything else. They've done studies multiple times that indicate that as soon as something becomes an issue of "us vs them," people will believe outright lies because it's just what our brain does. So you can argue facts all day long but the real issue is tribalism.

• a dad of a handful of kiddos, married, living in Colorado.
• a Christian in the Anglican tradition, and suppose I'm an unaffiliated conservatarian.
• a reader, working through the great novels as well as easier/fun books and nonfiction.
• a card and board game player and am happily teaching more to my kids as they get older.
• short on free time. I enjoy a philosophical pipe as I read and/or reflect, and occasionally get my guitar or bow/arrows out to learn new skills.
• a software developer... and have been for a very long time, now in the world of APIs and cloud development (CRM/SFDC).

When reading Ready Player One I realized that my first programming was as a kid editing programs on a TRS-80 (or something similar). First among our friends to have a desktop at home where we'd dial into our local #BBS to play games, chat, and message with people from around the world, back when it didn't seem so creepy when you'd be asked "a/s/l" regularly.

Later with the Internet I wondered why companies were buying up and shutting down services like WBS and Geocities, and was sad that what we had left was corporately driven social media mega sites.

I've been doing software development for decades, professionally since my first year of undergrad where I studied #linguistics; but I think my real work is problem solving to make people's lives easier/better, software is just the tool I'm skilled with to do that.

I chose the QOTO instance because the rules seem open and free and friendly, the way the web should be... and because of the idea of helping bridge the gap and bring people of supposed opposite sides together to connect rather than be polarizing.
