Cancer was, profoundly. Whispered if even mentioned. HIV. Still — though less than it was. And Covid? Getting it is in some sense a failure to avoid it (I know, I know…). A failing. And then you have long Covid? That’s badly understood and we are freaky about all kinds of ongoing conditions that are disabling.
