The UN embargo on the sale of ballistic missiles to Iran has been lifted, leading to questions about its implications for Ukraine. Ihor Semivolos, an expert at the AMES Center for Middle Eastern Studies and co-founder of the Ukrainian Peacekeeping School, shared his insights.

The first announcement of the embargo's lifting came from Bagheri Kani, the deputy head of the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for political affairs. ZN UA sought a comment from expert Ihor Semivolos, who explained:

"This change is a result of the 2015 UN Security Council Resolution, commonly known as the 'nuclear agreement.' The Resolution set a timeline for lifting restrictions on the sale of conventional weapons to Iran, starting in 2018 and subsequently extending to missile weapons.

Today, the Resolution has expired, granting Iran the ability to sell missile weapons to any interested party without facing sanctions.
