THE ASSASSINATION AND INTELLIGENCE WAR RAGES ON
“Valerii Zaluzhnyi has sadly confirmed the death of his assistant, Hennadiy Chastyakov, who tragically lost his life on his birthday. The incident occurred at his home near Kyiv when an unknown explosive device detonated inside one of his gifts.”
The news snippet above is one of many such incidents - most of the assassinations have happened inside Russia and its occupied territory it’s fair to say.
Yet the war to find and kill those at the periphery of power has two primary intentions, no matter which side carries utmost out.
The first is fear - the endless reminder that you and by extension your family are always in danger. It’s a pressure you either face as live with or you walk away.
You are targeted because you are a confidant of a senior figure - hitting that figure indirectly reminds him and his associates that their security cannot be taken for granted. It’s one more price that these people must pay for what they do. Enemies can find you and they can kill you. And again, by extension your family.
If killing a son or daughter, wife or mother debilitates the command level decision making it has a direct and immediate effect on the war.
For everyone else it reminds us that traitors are still present. Even in Ukraine, even now there are those who prefer Putin’s Fascism to freedom and democracy.
It isn’t as if the war in this respect has been one sided. Far from it. Partisans and Ukrainian intelligence have managed some spectacular eliminations of key personnel.
Yet we all know they do it because their land has been taken and their people seized. They do it because they resist the evil of a dictator and a fascist regime. When it happens to Russians and collaborators it’s hard justice. When it happens to those fighting such a regime it’s quite a different thing. That’s what makes it so heinous and why the perpetrators must be found and eliminated.
Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦!
