"I figure it will take two years for the students to figure out the tech"

Disagree. Students will have figured out this tech by the start of next semester, at the latest.

@alasdairroberts The broader question is, what do students *want* to get from an education? If it's a piece of paper, tech in multiple forms gives them ways to cheat the system.

It's not a new argument, but what do these innovations & students' willingness to rationalize their use say about existing systems? Is it really that students aren't willing to do the work, or does it tell us something else? It may very well be the former, but if it's not, the latter question is worth exploring.

@britter @alasdairroberts I appreciate this point and the other aspect of this as to how instructors present/teach/use tech tools. There are many things we can do with a hammer, it can be a weapon, a paper weight, or a building tool.
