Tell me about your teacher prep and admin prep programs.
I got my M.Ed at Lesley Univerisity in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Where did you do your teaching or admin prep/degree? How was your experience?
@mmurraymass
I got my teaching credential at National University in Southern California. I would have chosen a different program, but my college GPA was too low for most competitive programs. I saw this path as a penance for my poor grades. The program was ok at best, though I got to meet some great people there that led to my first teaching job.
I got my administrative credential at CSUDH, in a program specifically geared for Charter School Leadership. It was a transformative experience, and a highly focused one for the specific context and setting I was working at, an urban charter school. I can't speak highly enough of my experience both in coursework and in terms of the practical and communal experience there, with fantastic program leadership. I eventually returned to teach in the program and continue to collaborate with people there 10+ years after. It helped me become a better admin as well as a better university instructor. The current iteration of the program is linked below.
@mmurraymass many prep programs will hire experienced practitioners and o teach courses, that is usually a good (though not well playing in). In the program I direct almost all courses are co-taught, I co teach with a practicing science teacher for example.
@mmurraymass I have not written a book to this point, but it seems like lots of marketing, conference presentations, free PD sessions, guest appearances, and education podcasts to get the word out.
@ZingerLearns Yes, we've been hitting most of those marks
@ZingerLearns I'm actually teaching my first graduate level course this coming fall at Lesley University, but in the counseling psychology program.
Also, I am on the other coast. What seems meaningful and achievable to me is getting our book into some university libraries that have teacher and admin prep programs.
