Okay, here *is* a place where I could use some help from folks who really understand the Fediverse.
I swear I remember reading somewhere about an agreed upon set of norms that instances have to sign on to in order to join. Did I imagine that?
Are there conditions for joining the Fediverse, or is it just join and if you're super toxic everyone eventually blocks you?

I am not an expert, but there are some admin who are actively working on creating mutually agree upon rules. For example my server is part of a United Federation of Instances, which has a set of mutually arrived at and agreed upon standards or code of ethics.
