@mguhlin I totally agree, especially when someone in a position of power creates the toxicity. My #1 piece of advice would be that unless you have to ride it out financially, get the heck out and save yourself.
I see so many "but the children" arguments to stay in toxic school situations, and my response is there are plenty of children in other schools that deserve your teaching.

I guess in retrospect, the other piece I would add to this, is how to avoid toxic workplaces in the first place. I know sometimes it's unavoidable, especially with changes in leadership, but I don't think it takes much to sniff it out if you know what to look and feel for. Often it can be as simple as asking does this feel and look like a good place to work?
