@actualham when was the last time the education system was this polarized? You have states like CA, NY, and NY on one end making education open, thoughtful, pluralistic, and critical, and you have states like Texas and Florida moving back 200 years.

@ZingerLearns I really don't know. I know historically segregation made for radical regional differences in politics and policies, but I don't know how to trace out the comparison. Though reading Adam Harris suggests that lots of what we are left with now comes from the white supremacy that was baked into the whole endeavor from the outset.

@actualham For sure, I think this is very helpful in thinking about trajectories and regression. From what I am seeing there is little original or innovative in these repressive and regressive approaches. As you point out, grounded in white supremacy, trying to move the clock backwards to at least the first half of the 1900s.
Also appreciate your point about the constraints on those teaching in places like Florida at both the K-12 and university levels. Some can move, but many if not most don't have the privilege to just leave a state.
It will be interesting to see how senior faculty, teachers of the year, and other people with some power and privilege stand up or not.
