Finishing my PhD soon, very privileged to not have much debt. Postdoc salaries are still totally uncompetitive to the point where the pay is prohibitively insufficient to afford living. Uncompetitive by a factor of 2x easily.

That is so so very well said.
Sometimes it feels like Ph.D. programs are as much about enculturating to accept some really toxic things relating to academia as they are about the "learning"
