@freemo you are taking me back about 25 years to when a few college buddies and I created SPAM MUD, they did the vast majority of coding. I really appreciated the general attention to language and writing that it required.

@mathewoakes "civility" and "decorum" often show up in the academy and elsewhere as on the surface norms for discourse, but often function as tools of oppression and maintenance of power hierarchies.

I am surprised there wasn't some "hardcore" blood oath involved, that if you agreed, you had to slice your palm open and drip some blood, take a pic and post it on your profile to demonstrate how "hardcore" you were.
I wonder how "hardcore" Elon's schedule is like, and how many late nights he commits to, and I don't mean red carpet or his other escapades related.

About to launch into my 3rd year and iteration of #ungrading.
It has been interesting to see my own pendulum swinging from more to less structure and back to calibrate with students and consider the shifting required from traditional compliance based STEM grading. Super excited that for the first time students will have had an ungraded class before mine, so we can tweek rather than initiate.
An update on my contract grading approach coming soon.

This is surprising, sad, and the saddest part of it for me is how both teachers and nurses are getting little support to address the mental health issues. I also see it with college students, where NIH reports show that more than half experience anxiety and depression.
But the "learning loss" and we have to "catch up" narratives literally trample on the souls of these people with little actual regard for them :(

Have been working with dissertational Ph.D. students and have been reminded of the contradictions in the journey...
Getting a Ph.D. is a lot of long days and short years 😂
