@leeannjung 100%
and more specifically anti-racist UDL has been a central component to our teacher prep program for a few years now. We use Tesha Fitzgerald's book as a text, which students have found to be extremely helpful and useful when we think about meeting the needs of all our students, especially when we think more expansively about how we invite and engage students in learning (providing multiple representations and multiple modalities that are culturally responsive) and how we expect students to demonstrate learning (especially moving beyond traditional heavy and formal writing tasks)

Hoping to see more #EduTooters who are interested in universal design for learning soon! Don’t know what that is? If you’re interested in #inclusion in #schools , learn more at udlguidelines.cast.org. They conceptualizad it decades ago, and the payoff for #equity and #learning make it worth our time. #UDL #EdChat #Education #Teaching

(Please boost/share with potential PhD candidates)
Very excited to announce that I am looking for #PhD students to work with @ umich CSE. If you're interested in #causality + #machinelearning and would like to spend your PhD years NOT losing half your income on rent, I strongly encourage you to apply to our PhD program

Making cranberry sauce has become a thing for me over the last few years.
There is a lot of great chemistry to be taught about food and different cultural traditions when we teach science.
Sugar to water ratios? Why and how do cranberries congeal?

@dtcampbe I have been inactive on there just checking on those who potentially migrate, but after this weekend will probably fully deactivate.

First post, because why not. Shameless plug: If everyone bought one right now for themselves, and one for a friend, this book, Algorithms of Oppression, could have a chance at improving the internet for women and people marginalized by tech...and I hope you will buy it from Eso Won Books, a Black-owned Los Angeles independent bookstore we’ve treasured so dearly: esowonbookstore.com/

So I have been on here for a couple of weeks and there is so much to love.
Some of my favorite things...

Really enjoying the more international perspectives

@freemo appreciate you, your work, and continuing efforts. Sorry these are taking a toll on you :(

@ShanaVWhite I am increasingly convinced that many of the investors that backed the man (I don't think he even came up with the majority of the $44bil) did it to watch the place burn down to destroy the outlet of voices they didn't want to hear. And to open the space for more hate and violence. I think of how the Saudis were trying to suppress critics pre-takeover and how they are billions deep into this new version.

So it seems joinmastodon removed QOTO from their directory without cause, without contacting us, and without any discussion or due diligence.

Since this is the only way to actually find QOTO for new users if it isnt reversed soon it could mean the end for our wonderful community.

If you care about this place remaining fair, respectful, and inclusive environment I highly suggest everyone reach out to them annd voice your objecttion and your disapointment and having no procedure to keep this fair and inclusive.

If you want to see QOTO stick around you can email your objecttion here:

hello@joinmastodon.org

Feel free to CC me here: jeffrey.freeman@qoto.org

Please be respectful, we want to show them we are the good guys and not give them any reason to object.

@Gargron @trinsec @khird

@funnymonkey is there a breakdown of the people who invested in this $44 billion dumpster fire. If I recall, he didn't have the liquidity for it all, and had some large investors including the Saudi Royals, Jack and others. At what point does that pressure come to bear or is it play money for all of them? I can imagine some of the investors considering the burning down of the bird app as money well spent to squelch the speech or opponents.

Excited 2 share this wonderful/important piece from Hosun Kang & Jasmine McBeath Nation n JSTE - Will be free access starting tomorrow though end of year! #SciEd #Justice #Equity tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10

@cara__jackson I see the very small effect sizes, and really wish for a couple of things.
1) that some of these studies would also look at measures such as student well being, belongingness etc...
2) as someone who now co-teaches at the university level, there are nuances and a developmental trajectory to co-teaching. Co-teaching in some ways is extremely difficult and requires a partnership, planning time, and time to work through teaching styles and approaches. I wonder what outcomes are for say teachers who have been co-teaching for 2+ years.

I have really appreciated and enjoyed my experience on here since moving from the bird app. There is something different about this community, and maybe that is because I have not found the doom scrolling yet 🤣
Thinking of the bird app and reading on the latest news is the bosses strategy to avoid losing $4 mil/week or day or whatever he claimed to lose $44 bil as soon as possible? 🤔

Working on preparing for my next cohort of aspiring STEM teachers and our yearlong methods course journey.
Revising my ungrading approach through this third iteration of going gradeless and finding myself seeing better the intertwined nature of key elements of humanizing ungrading with critical elements of
1) building a trusting community,
2) Transparency,
3) Contract grading with student agency,
4) Frequent and actionable feedback,
5) conferencing, and
6) adapting on the fly

Anything else that is missing from that list?
