“We found that there’s this perfect one-to-one relationship. If a city increased its road capacity by 10%, then the amount of driving in that city went up by 10%.” One of the earliest, and still one of the best articles on why building bigger roads just leads to more driving. Call it #InducedDemand, or #JevonsParadox, or the #LawOfCongestion. Via WIRED, it’s worth a read and share.

I'm curious how many #CommunityCollege folks are experience restrictions on what they can and can't do in their classrooms? Your thoughts and resources for protecting #AcademicFreedom would be appreciated! @edutooters #edutooter

@humrespro was just thinking of how incredibly you have all grown and developed over just a couple of years! I can't wait to see this continue

As the year comes to a close, I am mindful of two fantastic organizations that are doing incredible equity, anti-racist work that has emerged over the last couple of years that I invite those who have the resources to support.

someone on tiktok told me that AI was going to make my classes obsolete, but like... I teach AI ethics 🙃

@funnymonkey I have deactivated my account on the bird app, and I can agree with much of you posted, but think in many ways this is more nuanced. I will make a few points of my observations as I have been watching this platform expanding and the education space.

1) The - I am 100% with you on this. They were trash before, they are trash now, and their primary and overarching goal is to make money, project feel good, and ultimately perpetuate an inequitable system. This group as a whole is indifferent to the increasing violence on the bird app, but they never really cared. They have avoided "controversy" and were silent on BLM, CRT etc...

2) I have met and been in community with amazing educators on the bird app. I found you there, and there are pockets of dedicated educators, doing amazing work who have spent years building a community that is helpful, supportive, and productive. I have learned and benefited from many of them. I know many are reluctant to leave, especially given how difficult it is to create such spaces. I know in my work with I was able to create a community that has been incredibly productive and generative.

3) There is more to say, but I will make one final observation and leave with a question, I have been on here for about a month, and I know things are dynamic and shifting, but one very clear thing to me is the whiteness of Mastodon. When I look at who I was following on the bird that have moved here, there is a single Black woman. Overwhelmingly, it's white men, and in the space there are many white women, as one would expect. I don't see many POC on here as of right now, and the question I have for myself and the community is how do we make this a more welcoming, safe, and productive space for those marginalized within ?

Never forget, electric cars are here to save the car industry, not the planet.

You're not "using AI to generate creative ideas".
You're using #AI to reproduce creative ideas by others and mashing them together without understanding and attribution.

New AI, same biases. ChatGPT written lyrics: “If you see a woman in a lab coat, She's probably just there to clean the floor / But if you see a man in a lab coat, Then he's probably got the knowledge and skills you're looking for.”

@freemo @ufoi This is smart because @freemo is more interested in happening than being in charge of it. Deserved or not, he is polarizing.

Either you trust the process, or you do not. If you trust the process, you can subjecr tourself to it.

Good.
