We’re not against Christians, we're against Christian Nationalism. We're not fighting men, we’re fighting patriarchy. The target is not white people, it's white supremacy. We don't oppose heterosexuals, just homophobia. Join the work dismantling oppressive systems.

Maybe this is a weird analogy, but this mirrors part of what is wrong with #academia these days. Too much focus on things other than #education. If we refocus, remember how to love educating, maybe we can bring the #academy back the way #BarnesandNoble is coming back. #PUI

I dunno how organizations/individuals committed to DEI & public health are still creating/sharing content on an website/app where the website/app owner is shaping public discourse on “woke mind virus” and making queer-phobic content that (in some twisted way) threatens the safety of public health officials like Fauci. where is the red line?

Looks like a good read: "Policy makers and researchers can be more specific about the values underlying proposed interventions or in society at large." journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.11

House Sergeant-at-Arms William Walker, who led the D.C. National Guard during the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack, said law enforcement would have responded differently if the rioters had been Black.
“I’m African American. Child of the Sixties. I think it would have been a vastly different response if those were African Americans trying to breach the Capitol,” Walker told the House Jan. 6 panel in April, according to a transcript released this week .

The military budget is $858 billion.

It’s larger than the military spending of the next nine largest military powers in the world combined.

Over half of it is going to for-profit companies.

This is the military-industrial complex that Dwight Eisenhower warned of — on steroids.

@brndnpink @edutooter There’s a blended answer, here. A scattered approach driven entirely by individual teacher preference is no more an answer (nor any more respectful to the role of the professional educator in the powerful school) than administrative directives. There’s got to be a shared sense of direction, with consensus on (and accepted information supporting) need for specific kinds of capacity-building.

@tdrummon @brndnpink @edutooter there is definitely a teacher professionalization component underlying this and raising questions about how we view, and trust teachers, and the policy responses to this have continually worked to deprofessionalize teachers.

@brndnpink @edutooter Actions speak louder than words, it has been said. The way you treat teachers conveys how those teachers are to treat the children. When administrators pass down authoritarian edicts rather than protect and cherish the community of a school, the possibility of growth crumbles.

Masto misogyny

Friend to me just now: “On Mastodon every computer dude assumes women don’t know anything. It’s exhausting.”

Friend is worldwide expert in her field of [computer and other things]. Friend is also a woman. All info about her either linked in profile and/or easily googled. Just mansplained to re the area of research that she pioneered.

Dudes: before you reply, check and see to whom you’re speaking and adjust your assumptions accordingly. Or just don’t be a reply guy, period.

@mur2501 A hashtag would be good!
I am not sure about "best" because every person's cat is best 😉. Maybe which is probably too long.
Maybe a set of hashtags to highlight or ?

Who'd have thought the winning tweet of the year would be such a late entry?!

@brndnpink @edutooter I hope we can think beyond these binary choices, especially in consideration of 2 things:

1) American teachers having about the least planning and prep time in developed counties, where either choice has very limited likelihood of success because teachers don't have time to plan, reflect, and collaborate and work together. Which leads to

2) Teachers work in complex systems and considering the role of admin, instructional coaches, the community, parents, and students should be part of this conversation. Many have problematized the "best practices" approach because of lack of context, and attending and considering context is critical.

People worry about leaving #Twitter for #Mastodon because of the community size, but in two months I have gained almost half the number of followers of what I had gathered on Twitter over a four-year period.

The Venn diagram of the skillset required to win an election and the skillset required to solve public policy problems are two circles that just barely touch.
