There are only 14 counties in the world that offer full legal rights to women. The US is not one of them.
Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands

• if you need an abortion (or had one) in a state where it’s illegal, don’t discuss it on social media at all, but ESPECIALLY not on Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp)
• if you need abortion pills, DO NOT search for them on Google. It sucks anyway. Use DuckDuckGo or another search engine.
• if you buy abortion pills, do it through a trusted third party who lives in a blue state.

One cool thing about #JonStewart going viral again for another basic, research-grounded interview with a genuinely malice-driven "traditional-values" neo-Nazi cretin is that it gives 98% of journalists another 101 lesson in the actual good work they could do if they didn't have to worry about "losing access" to disingenuous shitsacks they 100% know to be lying in order to make America a shittier, more violent reactionary cesspit than it already is.

@jeffjarvis bet you they will still show up as guests on the station and pay for political ads on there as Biden did the last cycle.
With some of the things happening socio-politically assaulting women's rights, LGBTQIA people rights, POC rights, labor rights I am reminded of the hypocrisy of white progressivism and liberals...
That this group has massive economic power that could be wielded, but rarely is because it's inconvenient
I am pro labor- but I can't be bothered not to buy from Amazon and Starbucks
I am pro woman- but I can't be bothered not to shop at Walgreens and CVS
I am pro LGBTQIA- but those Chix Filet sandwiches are a bit too much to give up
If we can't do the little things, how will we do the big things?
This is also why small groups of highly organized radical and violent people can have so much sway.
Two good essays in Teen Vogue, which I confess is not a publication I ordinarily read: one in 2020 about teachers ditching grades (https://is.gd/T6HzcQ), the other reminding us that, despite the widely accepted "cancel culture" narrative, U.S. universities actually skew rightward in the ways that count (https://is.gd/sfzKsB)
“One of the most popular conceptual models in #Western #education was built on the wisdom and sophistication of a First Nations society, which was then made completely invisible in the literature. “

This also reminds me of the "Yeah But..." AKA devil's advocates group.
Encouraging all supporters of #highered to take a stand against authoritarians dictating who can teach at public universities and what they can teach. California’s community colleges do not employ enough full-time faculty and in some cases districts are misspending state funds allocated for those faculty instead on too many part-time adjuncts, finds state auditor.
@actualham For sure, I think this is very helpful in thinking about trajectories and regression. From what I am seeing there is little original or innovative in these repressive and regressive approaches. As you point out, grounded in white supremacy, trying to move the clock backwards to at least the first half of the 1900s.
Also appreciate your point about the constraints on those teaching in places like Florida at both the K-12 and university levels. Some can move, but many if not most don't have the privilege to just leave a state.
It will be interesting to see how senior faculty, teachers of the year, and other people with some power and privilege stand up or not.
@ZingerLearns I really don't know. I know historically segregation made for radical regional differences in politics and policies, but I don't know how to trace out the comparison. Though reading Adam Harris suggests that lots of what we are left with now comes from the white supremacy that was baked into the whole endeavor from the outset.
@actualham when was the last time the education system was this polarized? You have states like CA, NY, and NY on one end making education open, thoughtful, pluralistic, and critical, and you have states like Texas and Florida moving back 200 years.
Florida will become the place where public #higherEd goes to die https://www.rawstory.com/florida-education-goes-to-die/
