I am offically stepping down as a Council member from the #UFoI in an attempt to choose a more impartial head until an election can be done. If anyone has issue with QOTO being in the UFoI please report it with any evidence and the new head will remove us from the UFoI, thanks.

@mguhlin
fascinating and concerning.
Going to hold off on this one for now ;)
Here's how to use Lensa, the chart-topping app that uses AI to transform your selfies into digital avatars
@librarianshipwreck thanks for saying this. My hope was that emerging from the height of the pandemic we would collectively have a year of recovery, especially with all the enthusiasm I saw at the start of the year, but I find myself and students more tired at this point of the year than I recall the previous two.
@humrespro @stimpunks
I would add a few books to this list:
Cultivating Genius
Antiracism and UDL
These Kids are out of Control

@conradhackett surprised to see Italy so low on the list, I would have expected higher based on wine consumption.
Would be interesting to see the breakdown by hard liquor, wine, and beer.

Any surprises above for you?
@DavidKnuffke @edutooters @JenRoberts @aus_teach @scerruti I have been ungrading for 2 years now, and our students still need to pass the edTPA, be observed and evaluated by supervisors, and get interviewed and get jobs, and they seem to be doing just fine, while reporting experiencing improved mental health, less stress and anxiety and greater focus on their own well being and the well being of their students.
@edutooters @JenRoberts @ZingerLearns @aus_teach @scerruti we continue to reduce impact of tests on grades in our institution and the bottom has yet to fall out 😂
@DavidKnuffke @JenRoberts @scerruti @aus_teach @edutooters I am very excited to see the movement to less standardized testing in the US, seeing it with SATs, GREs and in teacher prep. Also excited to see evidence that life goes on without these tests just fine, despite the pearl clutching.
@scerruti @aus_teach @DavidKnuffke @JenRoberts @edutooters That’s true in a lot of programs though, not just education. They need the money.
@JenRoberts @scerruti @DavidKnuffke @aus_teach @edutooters I think there is high variability is counseling out and admissions. There are policy pressures to increase production. There are many for profit programs that benefit financially as you point out. Many public institutions/programs like mine do not get funding on a per student basis, and it actually doesn't help financially to prepare more.
All of this to say that programs that consider themselves ethical have a responsibility to admit, prepare, and support candidates who will become ethical teachers. This includes having structures in place to exit candidates who will harm students.
@DavidKnuffke @scerruti @JenRoberts @aus_teach @edutooters Standardized tests also do a fantastic job of sorting out historically marginalized students both due to cost and tests structure.
@scerruti @JenRoberts @aus_teach @edutooters I’d get rid of every standardized test a teacher needs to get certified. They do nothing except male money for test administrators.
@JenRoberts @scerruti @DavidKnuffke @edutooters @aus_teach I agree on the bar on the CBEST, which as others have pointed out is now waivable, but even with that said. All of these tests present financial barriers (in California, if you are in a program fees on all tests are covered by the state).
CBEST is $90, each CSET is $127, and the edTPA is $300. So easily $500+
Worse, the CSET and edTPA are very problematic tests. Working in STEM teacher prep, and this is well documented, multilingual learners and students with disabilities fare much worse on the very writing intensive assessment.
Also worth pointing out, that as we expect and demand students engage in UDL strategies and equitable practices that we use inequitable tests on them.
