@DrSuzanne @ZingerLearns @ungrading I agree, it is NOT transparent. The same method could have been used to destroy a student an unscrupulous teacher didn’t like. For that reason, I don’t think it is justified as a teaching method. I prefer a use of rubrics, so people know where they stand.

This must be said: YOU paid for Social Security. It’s YOUR money - and now Republicans want to drastically cut your entitled benefits. House Democrats won’t let that happen.

@ccampboyle @ungrading @DrSuzanne wow how well that captures so much about the violence, unfairness, and lack of transparency of grading. And the lasting memory!

@ZingerLearns @ungrading @DrSuzanne In high school, in the 1950s, my father received a D on a paper. He was angry because he knew his paper was better than that of a classmate who had received an A. His teacher replied, “His paper was an A for him; your paper was a D for you.”

I totally forgot about this music video where Weezer got all the early internet celebrities together to be in their video.... my god the memories, back when the internet was an enjoyable place to be.

It should surprise absolutely nobody that the College Board and their AP tests crumbled faster than month old bread to an anti-free speech, racist governor hell bent on erasing and rewriting Black history.
Their statement is a complete embarrassment, especially in the face of the fact that 1/2 of students failed other AP history tests last year.
The college board cares about profit, not students, and a simple way to do away with the AP test is to make community college coursework more accessible to high school students, which is more effective in preparing them for 4-year university success.

Shameful to see the College Board cave to the demands of DeSantis and white supremacists, especially as we kick off Black History Month. Just shameful.

@elyseea and it isn't just 1 district, there is at least 1 other district to do this already and 1 more that may follow.
There are strong, well funded, concerted efforts to erase Black history along with LGBTQIA people. We should all be shaken by this and moved to action.

Many of my CA educator colleagues have expressed the belief that the mania for book banning is unlikely to happen here. After all, it’s California: free thought, free speech, etc

Check out this report from Orange County.

Where efforts to capture local school boards and are effective, it can happen. School systems and libraries have existing policies for materials review. These efforts are about circumventing existing policies by fiat.

Starting Black History Month by caving to whiny white people regarding Black history is just the perfect example of where we are in this stupid era we're damned to live through.

Congratulations to Exxon Mobile for earning $56 billion net profit in 2022. Against all odds, they found a way to make record profits

$6.3 million per hour
$1,750 per second

But don’t worry. That didn’t stop Exxon Mobil from getting subsidies from our government. Since FY2000

Texas gave them $1.4 Billion
Louisiana: $500 Million
The federal government: $5.4 Billion in bailout money

Does anyone want to know why we are speedrunning to climate crisis?

One thing I am absolutely not worried about ChatGPT doing is humanizing instruction or helping build classroom community.

Can't wait for every uni to buy an enterprise subscription while immiserating their adjuncts even more

Trying not to shed tears from the overwhelm I’ve caused myself based on where I am research-wise and where I should be. #realthoughts #phdlife

I should have also said that I appreciate the idea of "good faith effort" because of the different circumstances and backgrounds students have, and realities they have to deal with, so that what a good faith effort looks like for one person may look different for another.

We need term limits. Senators hold on to their seats waaaay too long, I voted for one of my current senators 30 years ago, and she is now considering retirement
