Militarist anti-democratic currents run deep in #Brazil, but the way the #Bolsonaristas took all the pages from the #Trump_6jan_playbook is deeply disturbing - has this become a legitimate script for the right-wing globally in dealing with electoral loss?

Capitalist housing policy is built on a contradiction: A home’s value is directly tied to the scarcity of housing for other people.

Housing is a right, not an investment.

Great resource; thanks for sharing! My government courses are getting to be more and more about reflection / assessment / growth and I’m ok with that. I do *however* spend a lot of my own time looking for strategies to be as efficient and effective as possible with all that so I can still talk about institutions and processes… or maybe just why it’s important to vote! lol

In 1952, Katherine Johnson heard there were open positions at the all-Black West Area Computing section at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics’ (later NASA) Langley laboratory.

With far too many accomplishments to list, her work was fundamental to marking a turning point in the space race with the Soviet Union. nasa.gov/content/katherine-joh

In 2015, President Obama awarded Johnson the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She passed away in 2020 at 101. #women #history #space

Time to work over the course syllabus just a little more; I think self-assessment is proving to be my best strategy for shifting the focus from “What’s my grade?” to “What did I learn about…. ?”

Really, really, really want to incorporate peer assessments but my experience has been the kind of inconsistency that Morgan discusses in this video. #Teaching folks, what’s yielded the best results for your students?

In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. The reason: The country applies the “Housing First” concept. Those affected by homelessness receive a small apartment and counselling – without any preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected thus make their way back into a stable life. And: All this is cheaper than accepting homelessness.

how different the world would be if the prevailing view was that we, as a society, should all care for each other.

As the DeSantis regime eviscerates freedom of speech in Florida's university system, timid journalists use the anodyne word "conservative" to describe him and his apparatchiks. Refusing to call the extremists what they truly are is poor journalism. heraldtribune.com/story/news/p

@matthewfacciani that is a great poster! Is there any debate on how this translates into qualitative approaches? @sociology @openscience @psychology

These are great starters for conversation about #LandBack and other Native issues.

Refusing to Forgive Institutional #Racism Is Not Cancel Culture-When you ridicule a race of people you dehumanize and devalue their worth as individuals.

Even though more women are joining the Ukrainian military, their participation is not valued like men's. Women’s ability to voluntarily serve on front lines is limited due to restrictions that place them in gendered domestic & support roles.

Working on these course materials took way longer than expected (shocker!).

Had to postpone my time off, but BY JOVE I'm done, and ready to take a week off for the first time in forever!

o/

My standard set of prompts for weekly/semi-weekly reflections have been something like:
- What went well? What the best part of the week?
- What did not go well?
- Did you feel included in class activities and discussion?
- How would you evaluate your own engagement with the course? How can you improve?
- What did you find challenging? What are you doing to address challenges?
- How can the instructor improve your experience?

It's time again when thoughts turn frantically to course design and syllabus writing ... I'm working on how I might better support my students in developing their metacognitive skills in writing regular learning reflections. If learning reflections are part of your practice, do you have prompts/thoughts to share?
