“The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that its center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.” — Black Elk #quotes #quotesfortoday
Hi all, this is a core commitment I'm carrying into the #NewYear. This ‘Yes!’ theorizing comes from Deborah Bird Rose in SHIMMER and nicely captures the socio-ecological caring stance I've been working towards for a while.
She describes it as an ethical commitment to investigate and participate in the great flow of life's desires and ways of becoming, with its tendencies and its emergent possibilities.
"With ‘Yes!’ life moves, it acts, it comes bursting forth."
A life-size statue of Henrietta Lacks, whose cancer cells were collected without her consent and used for decades in medical research, will be placed in a plaza replacing one of a Confederate General.

A lot of non-Natives fear #LandBack, concerned Native gov'ts would treat them the same way Colonial gov'ts treat Natives.
Truth be told though, #LandBack would be the best thing to ever happen to Natives and non-Natives.
#LandBack is best for everyone, and especially the planet itself.

@ZingerLearns very much in line with my own thinking. Leading seems to be an emergency property best spoken to by those who observe/experience working with you. Not to say that self-reflection isn’t crucial for leadership work, only that if you’re actually leading it will show up without you needing to proclaim it into existence.
@tonyperry @academicchatter brush up on your presentation skills 🔥 ASAP 🔥, well before you even get an invite.
The job talk is one of *the* most important aspects of the interviews, and a #DeathByPowerpoint won't cut it.
You've been told to put presentation skills on the "backburner" for years, so it's time to catch up ASAP. The job talk needs to be well-designed and engaging.
p.s. I have a job talk/teaching demo playlist on my channel 👉 https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrllfQHPFLPkS9x9MZiBAj2Bp-hBrr35Y
I thought it might be time for #introductions again.
I teach high school biology, anatomy, science research, and I teach and mentor future science teachers at the University of Colorado. I also bike, hike, run, swim, bird husband, parent, and walk and run with a dog named Ida. I occasionally blog at mrdrscienceteacher.wordpress.c...

Even if media predictions were correct, they represent a style of political reporting that is dysfunctional. Campaign coverage is increasingly focused on anticipating who will win through polling analysis. But politics is unpredictable.
Wow, according to CNN, the Idaho killing suspect was identified by taking DNA from crime scene and running it through public genealogy database to find family member. That would be a big deal if true, as method has primarily been used to solve cold cases. It's anonymous sourcing in the story so....? https://edition.cnn.com/2022/12/31/us/bryan-kohberger-university-of-idaho-killings-suspect-saturday/index.html
So disappointed with people who have big accounts and won't do the minimum to make this space an accessible place for disabled people. #Disability
“You cannot understand the history of education technology in the United States during the twentieth century – and on into the twenty-first – unless you realize that Seymour Papert lost and B. F. Skinner won.”

Behaviorism is dead.
Despite that,
Behaviorism won.
And neurodivergent and disabled students lost.

I guess what I'm trying to say is: Hey, if you go out to celebrate NYE, then do everyone a favor: lay low for a few days and test yourself for COVID before returning to normal activities.
Bonus points if you avoid indoor NYE parties at bars, clubs, and restaurants.
Extra bonus points if you avoid the public superspreader events altogether. Instead, consider gathering with a close group of folks you can trust to test themselves before meeting up for a private soireé.
Also: masks help. A lot.
