One composition technique I've been using lately is to reveal a melodic phrase slowly, loop the first few notes a few times, add in a few more, and repeat until the whole melody is revealed. Similar to the children's game "I'm going to a picnic"
I made this up, but undoubtedly I'm not the first. Does anyone know if there's a term for it and have any examples of it?
