In the US the wealthy choose who is in office. They pick people who they can easily bribe. If the officeholders ask for too much money in return for their laws and policies, then the wealthy will just replace them if the cost of replacement is less than the price that the officeholders are demanding.
@Pat I was mixing greedflation in this. If corporations get greedy, they can extract from the poor all they want, until the poor starve.
My thought was: "What if the greedy get so greedy that they cut the bribes".
