And when someone staps someone or beats them with a bat do we cry about how bats are legal... Yes there is a problem, but absurd solutions like making guns illegal is obviously not the answer.

Hmm, there is a disconnect: it was stated that guns should be regulated, with strict background checks. Your reply talks of "making guns illegal".
Did you reply to the wrong toot here or do you think background checks are a bad thing? If so, do you wish for people with known agression problems (psychological disorders or former history of violent crimes) to be able to have guns?
The person i responded to made absokutely no mention of background checks.

@freemo @stormy178@mastodon.stormy178.com @MelodyCooper For your reading pleasure, the toot repeated:

@MelodyCooper honestly well stated.
The trigger happy folks shouldn't get such weapons, not without EXTREMELY thorough background checks and VERY strict training.

I cant comment about a thread i cant read. I do not see that or any content like that in my feed.
@freemo I guess blocking can be a problem for discussions, but i do also see that you are quite provocative specifically when talking about this topic...
@admitsWrongIfProven i do t particularly care if someone wants to block me.. but says a lot about a persons disposition if thry block someone when they could just disagree and walk away.
The only thing i think i do all that provocative is make claims that are rooted in data which few people on the right do sadly. And on the left they are too used to sticking to some highly cherrypicked data so they arent used to needing to defend the data either way.
@freemo Oh, but that is ironic: your "sources" were completely from the usa, aside from the one that was amidst IRA violence. Cherry-picked to a place where the regulations were local, not federal at the times.
@admitsWrongIfProven Agreed, good quality studies on this topic is much needed. Its a shame im stuck needing to try to do it myself indeed
