Everyone is so nice here, but things are bad out there.
Since we are nice, i would guess we agree violence is not an answer.
How could we improve our lot? I am trying to avoid everything Nestlé (sometimes thwarted by their barrage of brands), i never ordered from amazon, and i strongly think about not eating meat again if i just see some concerted action.
But what would actually work? What i do is so meaningless, and if i had the power to change things it would be a dictatorship. Not what i want.
I am trying to define the problem, please criticize as much as possible:
We need to discuss reasonable goals without someone highjacking that for profit.
@MrScoville i did listen to the song, but i think i am too tired to appreciate it completely. Seemed nice, might check out tomorrow if i have the energy. Please do ask if you want to.
Hmm, is there a known bug, #mastodon ? Getting "rate limited, try again later" when posting after coming back from other things.
So, the green party wants money for parking in my city, even from residents. Very green, milking more money instead of improving public transport. I don't have a car, but i'm angry about this anyway.
At least they should call themselfs "The Profiteers" instead.

Definitely! Freedom is complex and multi-faceted.
What I meant is that, whatever the definition of “freedom”, I suspect “suffering” takes precedence.
Some anecdotal evidence:
I (think I) would prefer to live under a tyranny or behind bars, than in excruciating pain. A higher proportion of people living in excruciating pain (be it physical or psychological) want to end their lives, and do end their lives, than prisoners for life or citizens in autocracies do, right?
Punching someone in the face (ie causing suffering) feels worse, and I think is punished more severely, than holding them for an hour or keeping them locked inside a room the whole morning (restricting freedom).
Think what we do in advanced nations to reduce our #suffering in contrast to what we do to increase our #freedom — individually and as a society. I would argue that more of our public spending, R&D, political discourse, economic activity, social advocacy, individual decisions, purchases, etc is aimed at suffering less than at having more liberty.

@admitsWrongIfProven Set the feed to pause. Turn on the slow mode in the settings > preferences. It's the sane thing to do anyway!
#mastodon Can i filter the Federated feed by languages or charsets? I found some discussions online, but no clear howto or "does not work".
Motivation: the feed is incredibly fast, and i would like to not see things that i am unable to read anyway.

All i know to do is search, but then i need to know what i am searching for, and for now i want to explore, not search.

@admitsWrongIfProven There might be a way, but I don't recall it. Ask your question to the public at large, add the Mastodon hashtag and maybe someone can answer that question better than I do. :) Maybe there's a service for it.

When a problem occurs, remind people not to fix each others behavior but the hazardous environment that enabled it in the first place.
Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
This cultural thing is grounded deep down in held beliefs and takes deliberate effort to overcome.

Es soll ein "Parkdruck" gesenkt werden, indem Parkgebühren erhoben werden. Unverständlich, wie das funktionieren soll, wenn Alternativen wie der öffentliche Nahverkehr nicht verbessert werden.
Kann es da ein anderes Ziel geben, als einfach nur mehr Geld einzunehmen?
