On clouds, albedo, the green house effect, and air pollution.

Brace for impact: “as we clean up air pollution, we unmask global warming” because some types of clouds increase albedo but are depenent on particles in the air to form.

“CO2 levels of 560 ppm would probably result in at least 3 or 3.5 degrees of warming”.

Currently at 412 and raising, from 280 before the industrial revolution.

3C is an average, means ~6C over land.

@albertcardona It's a replay of the Permian Extiction, only over decades instead of millenia. Once we hit the tipping point and all that methane that is currently locked up gets released, we could see 1000 ppm easy.

@ambulocetus And we all continue to drive ICE cars, fly for holidays, warm up uninsulated houses, eat high-emissions food, and wishfully think it’s not so bad. We have no idea, do we. And at this rate, we’ll notice the change—we are already—within our lifetimes.

@albertcardona Oh yea, I'm noticing it. Fifty degree days in January near Chicago are the new normal. I'm an exterminator, and business sucks because all the bugs wake up in the middle of winter thinking it's spring, then get killed by a blizzard in March.

@ambulocetus That's one of the deadliest effects of #GlobalWarming: the weather becomes unpredictable. Our agriculture is based on the fairly stable and predictable weather patterns–what we call climate–through the seasons. Remove that, and we are in deep, deep trouble; as we are.
