One week’s spring growth with my eastern black carpenter ants (who are excellent rewarding ants to keep as pets!) #antphoto #antphotos #camponotus #carpenterAnts

possibly dumb question

@futurebird Don't they go out of the nest to scavenge for food and whatnot? If yes, then how do you manage that?

possibly dumb question

@1ynx Their nest is connected to a glass aquarium which is their foraging area with water feeders, and various things to climb on.

re: possibly dumb question

@futurebird That's so cool. And a lot better than my initial guess of keeping them in the log and maybe occasionally letting them roam the world outside. :ms_sweat_smile:

re: possibly dumb question

@1ynx

LOL Like I'd just ominously carry around a log in the park and then "unleash the ants" for a bit?

... can't say I don't like the idea...

@futurebird @1ynx Honey Bees come back to their hive even if it's moved to a new location, so I'll bet the Ants can find their way back to your log.
Perhaps you could even rent out your ant-log as a sort of chemical-free pest control service. I'll bet those hungry Camponotus would love some juicy bedbugs or roach nymphs.
