"The truth has no defense against a fool determined to believe in a lie."
Mark Twain

If Elon Musk can afford to lose $200 billion in a single year, he can afford a wealth tax.

@neoczo @mirandayaver Two alleged rapists and whatever the f*ck skeletons Amy Cony Barret has in her closet. Seriously, I get some "Carrie's step-mom" vibes from the weird look in her eyes. youtube.com/watch?v=12wHDwNXBL

Sometimes a "healthy debate" is really a malignant diversion.

The oligarchs who control our economy and democracy seek to divide us so they can become more powerful. They want us to turn on each other so we don't look up and see where all the wealth and power have gone.

Remember: We have more in common with each other than we do with them.

A government report says that, thanks to Republican tax cuts, "large, profitable companies" paid 9% in taxes in 2018 — and 34% of them paid no taxes at all.

But let's talk about drag queen story hours.

@cdevroe But don't tell the "journalists". They can stay on Twitter.

"Across the country, people are increasingly relying on mutual aid—cooperative assistance adherents describe as “solidarity, not charity”—to get through climate-related disasters.

The practice is nothing new. Communities of color and other marginalized groups have long relied on mutual assistance when government services fell short. But now, many frontline communities are taking up the practice as a way to become more resilient in the face of increasingly extreme weather."

@StingrayBadger @ChrisMayLA6 Don't worry, the wealthy only have your best interest at heart. They may take away your health-care, but in return they will give you guns so that you won't live long enough to need health-care.
That's how we do it, and 100% of our television personalities agree that the US has the best health-care in the world, so it must be true.

Fun Fact: Did you know that some people are actually wrong on purpose? This is called "lying", and it happens more often than you'd think.

@Alan I don't call those people "journalists", and as far as I'm concerned, I don't want them here. I consider myself to be well-informed compared to those around me, and I did it without giving a single penny to any form of mass media, be it sattelite, cable or newspaper. Vote with your dollars. If they won't tell the truth, they don't deserve your money. Stop giving it to them, and maybe they will get the message.

@rebeccawatson Same here. I want a small work truck to navigate tight city streets, but I'm not the buyer they want to attract apparently.

I don't know who needs to hear this but

The postal service exists to deliver letters and parcels to people
Not to make money for shareholders

The transport system exists to move people to where they need to go
Not to make money for shareholders

The water, gas, and electricity supplies exist to provide people vital utilities
Not to make money for shareholders

The healthcare system exists to ensure (and that's ENsure, not INsure) the health of the population
Not to make money for shareholders

Shareholders in vital public services are a vampiric drain on those services

Capitalism is a disease
