A lot of time was spent talking about this a few months ago. We were pre-emptive blockers. Some nice enough people running servers took a wait and see approach.

Then Threads launched and hosted, and still hosts, Libs of TikTok, PragerU and Gays Against Groomers.

Treating them like any Fedi instance, that's a block.

Feel free to mute any "tech company in bio" types who think this is wrong.

Landlords attributing rent increases to "the market" is a tactic they use to collectively defend their interests, masking the power dynamics they hold within the capitalist system and deflecting responsibility. This rhetoric obscures the influence of a select group shaping economic conditions.

It bears repeating.

I wonder if #sciencemastodon can figure out if molecules or the periodic table can make sounds beats. We have to know what they sound like.

Focusing on language is a glue trap for civil rights movements.

It begins because liberals love being told the exact right words to use- it means you're not asking something that requires effort.

Slowly you find you're mostly talking about what words and phrases are respectful. Then they spring the trap.

Now your movement stands accused of being all about empty performance. They rebel by refusing to use the words and phrases they forced you to focus on so they didn't have to take any action.

The next time you see a writer, an artist or another creative person promoting their work in the Fediverse ... and you are annoyed by this, please take a look at the quote by Durgadas Allon Duriel.

And this is also a friendly reminder that artists and small businesses are not huge corporations or companies with a lot of money. These people have to pay their bills etc. like everyone else. So they have to talk about their works and products.

Creators, more than anyone, need to speak out against this false ‘us vs. them' narrative. It's a disingenuous ploy, like when Facebook said cross-app tracking was ‘good for small businesses’.

I encourage anyone to adblock my stuff, and I know I'm not alone in that. Every creator has a part to play in promoting better security practices and fairer business models.
