I agree with what @taylorlorenz is saying here. In order to best amplify voices, a quote feature is definitely needed. Part of what made #Twitter successful as a news source was being able to easily add your opinion to content and share it simultaneously. #Mastodon is young for a social media site and is growing a passionate community, so I'm sure we'll see the community implement this feature. Regardless, I don't see the #TwitterMigration stopping anytime soon!

But there is, isn't there? There's a "boost" button, like a retweet, and a "quotes" button also. At least on my server. I'll quote tweet this in a minute to demonstrate.
