I have to admit something about the text filter makes people dim.. (or maybe receiving the signal as dim) without fault of anyone... but those that try do things only in text format.

Even with a good responsive person (no problems and we got there happily) just so many descriptions of the same thing... so many messages.. like just for what's on the screen...

So not for all use cases, it would be my ideal to request chat and that's it! Kinda chatroulette style if the other person gets the ok

Because it must be life or kids breaking people's attention that snaps them out of what they are doing and have to read and re-read something. So something is up with this text or maybe intelligence is lowering?

Stuff is not right here.
Even leaving alone any emotional / philosophical / political discussion you have peopel SMSing and getting the wrong idea, getting all emotional... probably to save call costs ... which probably ends up as wasted time too... as well as all of us training up with this life / people thing.

I think people don't even see text-only as a problem since text feels so good 'efficient' but only for sending or typing or concise-looking stuff... not actually understanding as expression and people always.

What gets me is people don't even calculate or save in memory how many SMS or emails and then they say "I have no time". So 10 emails later... actually 30mins of talk time could have work better... and less reading, re-reading etc multiple meanings permeated, guess-work etc...

It takes us a while to get to such a simple things... kinda of like using one hand instead of two, because our voice I think is also missing
And of course we also don't want to do the people thing. We're scared of division or scared or ourselves flipping out at someone.

To be fair only recently could we connect so fast and free audible services (skype being the major thing before) and now jitsi meet.jit.si/anychatname

Sorry BigBlueButton (no instant chat space to demo even on their website) and accordingly needs more server requirements (a cut down version would be good)

meet.jit.si/anychatname

If I'm wrong let me know.

@freeschool the debate of which information stream to use for the task heavily depends on the current environment and the comfort of the individual plus social standards.

Some people are very annoyed with voice messages because they don't want to become a nuisance in the current situation. Some don't have the option to talk for a set amount of time. Lots of time one doesn't know what the current environment for the individual is on the other side. Like if they are commuting then they would have to raise their voice to talk with you. Some people don't care about background noises where others are frustrated.

I can understand that it seems that in most situations from a one pointed view that a voice call would have solved the issue quicker, though unless you know your partner's situation that is a bias onlook.

@barefootstache
I think social standard hits it on the head... and there is are more hidden and unsaid things to social today like being to reserved or protective... also a list of other things below!

- people aren't good at talking or have psychological problems even talking on the street let alone on a internet call - fear of getting in trouble perhaps

- people can't 'find' relativity even with 0 things to start

- people are shit with their timing (IMHO from my experience everyone I've ever known... or more exactly they have plenty of time for this even after work (yeah ok tired etc but make time year) and somehow still 0 time in years for that little talk...) - I've seen and heard it and it wreaks of this equation:
+ fear of unknown
+ time mis-management (if not
+ lack of commitment
+ lack of willpower
+ etc

So I guess if it's not 1 thing it can be also all of the above (even with people I know and friendly with, just shit and have to squeeze it out / confront them a bit and then it's clear why... but before that ***avoidance***)

@freeschool
This was a concern back in the day until I came to the realization that "I don't have time" is equivalent to "you are not my top priority".

Thus if you have the fortune to be able to spend time with someone, you can be valued in some form or another.

@barefootstache
Which probably just in the same way you described not very conscious by people because they are 'high threat' only mode in the now... or perhaps thinks they can get something from you... not this friendship type logn term stuff...
I guess I wouldn't say it's not valuable but also I thinks like wherever the wind blows in between what they are forced to do rather than shape or counter it... just they are not doing the good work in repair or awareness or self-development etc... and not 'having time' avoids all that.

I might edit this if I'm being harsh but seriously I think not - just amazingly below par / oblivious or deliberately-oblivious/scared people.
