The number of US births in 2023 (provisional) was 3.59 million. (Below 3.6 for the first time since 1979.) The annual decline from the 2007 peak to 2019 was .92 per 1000 women (15-44) per year. After the pandemic bust-boom we are back on track for that trend. #demography

@olives @riggs7sct I see from your timeline that you use it to mostly 'quote toot' your own toots. I was asking about using it to 'quote toot' others toots.

German philosopher Immanuel Kant died #OTD in 1804. Kant's comprehensive and systematic works in epistemology, metaphysics, ethics, and aesthetics have made him one of the most influential and controversial figures in modern Western philosophy, being called the "father of modern ethics", "father of modern aesthetics" and, by bringing together rationalism & empiricism, the "father of modern philosophy". via @wikipedia

@riggs7sct I used it a few times at the start but was given a sharp reprimand by a user. Since that time I have not touched the quotation button; however, I heard it is being brought to the wider platform at some point.

@riggs7sct I have it available on my instance. I remember when I first started using I was informed that it's use was disliked on the platform that is why I ask.

"The concept of «blood and soil» as a historical determinant could be found in Termer’s work ten years before the Nazis used it as their state’s official ideology. After the fall of Nazism, he declared himself an «adversary» and «victim» of that policy. However, a careful reading of his texts reveals that he had supported National Socialism, colonialism, anti-Semitism, and racism for five decades."
