All I want for Christmas is universal health care, universal basic income, no machine guns in private hands, higher taxes on billionaires, free breakfast and lunches for everyone at free schools, and maybe a book and some good chocolate.

the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
universal health care in germany means you can choose which insurance you have to pay upwards of 200€ per month for receiving the bare minimum "will not die" treatments. you can't choose to not participate.
UBI will drive inflation to the point it's worthless.
why is the government more trustworthy to handle machine guns than my neighbor? all the checks and balances which are constantly failing everywhere aren't reassuring.
taxation is theft. there likely wouldn't be billionaires if governments didn't help them becoming one by spending stolen money in corrupt deals in the first place.
there is no such thing as "free lunch".
schools are institutions to break the will of children, it's torture. homeschooling even is vErBoTeN in totally free germany!
we've had free books for every married couple in germany for a while - until '45.
problems were made by governments constantly coercing people to do things they don't want in the first place. adding more governmental interventions is adding more problems. it's like applying band-aids soaked in drain cleaner. it might stop the bleeding but will hurt more in time.
