the closest thing - in the west after ww2 - there was to suppression of leftist ideas was mc carthy. which was removing communists from positions financed by the state, the same happened in germany in the 50s. not great, not terrible?

only that we now see woke evolving into fascism because of the public private wokeness partnership.
