Poll for U.S. people only
#EarthDay 🌍 #climateAction question: Considering that Americans have only environmentally abusive options for clothing dryers, does it make sense to install an electrical outlet and drain pipe in every closet to accommodate a dehumidifier?
The idea is that dehumidifying a closet would likely waste a lot less energy than a vented #tumbleDryer. Yes, heat pump dryers exist in the US (barely), and if you can find one it has an absurd price tag upwards of $1k & holds ½ as much clothing.
@koherecoWatchdog i think that only would be marginally better. i once had a small dehumidifier and that ran at 700W. it was barely enough to remove the humidity introduced by "living".
@bonifartius heat pump dryers use <⅓ the energy of a vented dryer like you find in the US. A dehumidifier in a closet is essentially the same technology. The only significant difference is that no energy is spent turning a drum.
It sounds like you might be using a dehumidifier that’s underpowered for the space you need it to control. I don’t imagine that any dehumidifier would be too underpowered for a closet.
